Welcome to SoCal AMPS
This is the SoCal Chapter of AMPS - The Armor Modeling and Preservation Society. The Armor Modeling and Preservation Society, Inc., or AMPS, was founded in 1993. Although AMPS’s main function is as a modeling club, it is definitely a different type of modeling organization compared to IPMS or other mainstream groups. AMPS has a Constitution and Bylaws to govern how it is run and the AMPS judging system rewards individual effort using a point system to minimize subjectivity. The purpose of AMPS is to foster a knowledge and appreciation of the history of armored vehicles, through examination of preserved examples located in both museums and private collections, in miniature through modeling. To this end, AMPS publishes a 32-page journal called Boresight six times a year. This journal covers reviews, tips, articles on preserved vehicles, and comparisons of models and related items. AMPS membership entitles you to product discounts from some of the most innovative products in our hobby. AMPS also hosts an international convention every spring in which the subject of armor is supreme. The convention features the best armor model vendors, seminars from armor experts and an excellent example of the best armor models from around the world in its competition. Competition is organized into five levels - junior, basic, intermediate, advanced and master - and the judging system rewards the modeler for his individual effort, not in comparison to other modelers. If you like to build armor models, we’d love to have you as a member.

This meeting is both a Build Night and our annual Club Swap Meet.
This is an opportunity for you to sell or trade away (AT NO COST TO YOU) all of those kits and other modeling stuff that you know you will never use (paints, decals, tools, magazines, reference books, etc.).
So fill a couple boxes worth of stuff you will never use so you can sell or trade with your fellow SoCal AMPS club members. You never know what you can get rid or or what you might find to get.
And remember, if you can’t sell it to trade it you can always donate it for the Model Kit Auction Club Fundraiser on 3/8/25.
Don’t want to drag a bunch of stuff to the meeting that you might not be able to sell?
Consider sending out an email to our distribution with a priced listing what you have to sell.
Interested club members can contact you to make a deal and then you only have to bring what you know is already sold.
Update on Goodbye Mr. Frye:
Jim Frye left California and moved to Kentucky on Saturday 2/1/25.
Henry Trembly was able to meet up with him prior to his leaving and presented him with the SoCal AMPS club’s goodbye card and car and biplane model gifts.
Jim was very appreciative and regrets he was unable to say goodbye to all of us at our last meeting
He said he plans to return for Orangecon, so we will all have an opportunity to see him again in October.
Hopefully, he doesn’t bring too many award winning models with him and gives the rest of us a chance to win some awards for a change.
