Just a reminder that the next SoCal AMPS Live Monthly Meeting is this Saturday, 7/11/26.
This meeting is a special SoCal AMPS double celebration honoring both our 18th Year Anniversary and our 200th Live Meeting.
This month SoCal AMPS is celebrating with 3 activities:
(1) FREE early Buffet Dinner at 2:45 PM (SEE DETAILS BELOW) preceding our regular meeting

Left on Chapman Ave. (the first cross street)
Paradise Buffet is located on the extreme west side of the shopping center on the north side of Chapman Ave. between Brookhurst St. and Gilbert St.
It is west of the Cinema 16 and west of Burlington Coat Factory.
Meet in front of the Paradise Buffet at 2:45 PM.
They normally don’t take weekend reservations, but they made an exception for us, so we have to enter as one party.
We will need a headcount of those attending so we can make sure we have enough seats.
If you plan to attend Please RSVP back to me via return email (NOT REPLY ALL) by Friday 7/10/26 at 5:00PM.
If no RSVP or you’re late you may end up paying for yourself and sitting by yourself.
The Paradise Buffet is a favorite of the Brookhurst Hobbies Sprue Cutters club.
It offers a wide range of great and interesting food choices including:

Mongolian Barbecue (you pick the ingredients and they cook it right there for you)
Pot Roast
Chicken
Fish
Shrimp
Sausage
Pizza
Sushi
Soups
Pre-Made Salads
Salad Bar

NOTE: NEW MEETING LOCATION:
Our regular meeting location, the Brookhurst Hobbies Gaming Room and tented area, adjacent to Brookhurst Hobbies, has been sold and is no longer available for our use.
We will now meet in the NEW Brookhurst Hobbies Gaming Room, in the same shopping center, a few doors north of Brookhurst Hobbies, at 12072 Brookhurst St.
Look for a small sign on the front glass door.
Parking is available and the New Gaming Room is accessible from both the front or rear of the building.
We will meet in the South East corner of the building.
Please note that several other gaming clubs will also be meeting in the building at the same time as our meeting.

The following is a list of 2026 SoCal AMPS Model Build Contests listed by completion date.
Although the contests may be related to live meetings, Zoom meetings, or online social media activities, you are encouraged to post your model projects build and completion status on our SoCal AMPS online social media sites listed below.
If you cannot post to any of the sites, email your photos to Kevin Hjermstadt and/or Robert Yeatman and they will post them for you.
Their email addresses are listed in the To: section of this email.
(1) Vehicles of the Vietnam War, 1955-1975
This is a SoCal AMPS online social media contest.
This contest was completed on 1/31/26.
(2) Team Diorama Contest
This is a SoCal AMPS live meeting contest.
NOTE CHANGED DUE DATE:
By popular vote of those involved in this contest, Completed team dioramas are now due at the SoCal AMPS live meeting in February 2017.
4 teams of 3 guys each were selected by random draw.
The 4 teams are:
(1) Team Einst: Konrad Schreier, Bill Evans and Sean Falleson
(2) Team Dos: Jim Spellmire, Ed Davies and Jose Medina
(3) Team Brown: Jim Wechsler, Jon Trask and Luis Castillo
(4) Team Busting Heads: Kevin Hjermstadt, Ted Kawahara and Pascal Zandt
Contest awards are TBD at this time.
(3) Military Vehicles with Nose Art
Any military vehicle from any era that has “Nose Art”: photos, paintings, drawings, pinups, cartoons, shark mouths, eyes, names, patriotic, militaristic or anti-war slogans, graffiti, messages, etc.
This is a SoCal AMPS online social media contest.
Completed models are due to be posted online on 7/31/26.
Contest awards will be Brookhurst Hobbies gift certificates provided by SoCal AMPS.
Current Shelf Queen models are allowed for this competition.
(4) Model For Orangecon: Halftracks
This is a SoCal AMPS live meeting contest.
Completed models are due at the live SoCal AMPS Meeting on 10/10/26.
Contest awards will be Brookhurst Hobbies gift certificates provided by SoCal AMPS.
(5) 4 Hour Build Contest
This is a SoCal AMPS live meeting contest.
Models must be completely built and finished during the SoCal AMPS live meeting on 11/14/26.
Contest awards will be Brookhurst Hobbies gift certificates provided by SoCal AMPS.
(6) Tamiya Out of the Box Model Contest
This contest is divided into 3 parts:
(1) 1/72 and 1/48 Scale Aircraft
(2) 1/48 Scale Armor
(3) 1/35 Scale Armor
This is a SoCal AMPS live meeting contest.
Completed models are due at the SoCal AMPS live meeting on 12/13/25.
Models will be judged by a representative from Tamiya.
Prizes will be awarded by Tamiya.
Since there is only one award per person allowed, this means you have 9 chances to win!
So build something Tamiya out of the box.
NOTE: You MUST provide the kit instructions with each model entered in this contest.
Group Build: M113 Family of Vehicles-1/35th scale:
The goal is to complete over 100 models for the Group Build Display category at an upcoming IPMS Nationals Show.
Completed models are due TBD since the earliest time that the next IPMS Nationals will return to a western regional location is 2028.
In the meantime we intend to provide an in-process display of the models completed so far at the Orangecon Model Show/AMPS Regional Show on Sunday, 10/11/26.
You are encouraged to post your projects status on the SoCal AMPS online social media sites.
