Welcome to SoCal AMPS

This is the SoCal Chapter of AMPS - The Armor Modeling and Preservation Society. The Armor Modeling and Preservation Society, Inc., or AMPS, was founded in 1993. Although AMPS’s main function is as a modeling club, it is definitely a different type of modeling organization compared to IPMS or other mainstream groups. AMPS has a Constitution and Bylaws to govern how it is run and the AMPS judging system rewards individual effort using a point system to minimize subjectivity. The purpose of AMPS is to foster a knowledge and appreciation of the history of armored vehicles, through examination of preserved examples located in both museums and private collections, in miniature through modeling. To this end, AMPS publishes a 32-page journal called Boresight six times a year. This journal covers reviews, tips, articles on preserved vehicles, and comparisons of models and related items. AMPS membership entitles you to product discounts from some of the most innovative products in our hobby. AMPS also hosts an international convention every spring in which the subject of armor is supreme. The convention features the best armor model vendors, seminars from armor experts and an excellent example of the best armor models from around the world in its competition. Competition is organized into five levels - junior, basic, intermediate, advanced and master - and the judging system rewards the modeler for his individual effort, not in comparison to other modelers. If you like to build armor models, we’d love to have you as a member.

New SoCal AMPS Club Shirts:
This meeting will be your opportunity to order new SoCal AMPS club shirts with deliveries due by our October meeting, just in time for Orangecon.
The shirts are a nice thick, high quality royal blue cotton collared polo shirt with 2 button v-neck, front pocket and SoCal AMPS embroidered on the front.
Since each shirt makers sizes can vary, we can measure you to match you with this shirt makers sizes.
By way of comparison, I’m 6’1” tall and weigh 180 pounds and their provided sample Xtra Large shirt was too big on me, so I’d take a Large sized shirt.
Full cost per shirt, including tax, is $50.00
SoCal AMPS will subsidize each shirt for $20.00 per shirt.
So your cost will be $30.00
2XL and larger sizes are $4.00 more.
Cost are payable IN CASH ONLY at the September or October meetings.
If you can’t attend the September club meeting you can email your shirt order to me.
Help Needed:
Since we are now meeting in the Brookhurst Hobbies new gaming room some distance from the store, Brookhurst can’t have their staff members away from the store, especially at busy times, to set up and take down the tables and chairs for our meeting.
So we need your help.
We now need club members to be regular volunteers to help set up and take for our meetings.
Volunteers please arrive at 3:30 to help set up.
The more help we have the faster the setup and take down will take.
Thank you for your help with this club matter.
