October Meeting Notice

The next SoCal AMPS meeting is this Saturday, 10/6/18.
 
NOTE: SPECIAL DATE:
The October meeting will be held on the the FIRST Saturday of the month, 10/6/18, to avoid a conflict with the Orangecon show which this year is scheduled on our regular meeting time on the second Saturday of the month, 10/13/18.

NOTE: SPECIAL TIME:
The October meeting will start at 3:00 PM to allow enough time to accommodate the 4 Hour Model Build Challenge contest.
 
NOTE: PARKING LOT PAVING:
The Nutwood Industrial Park will be repaving their parking lots on Saturday 10/6/18 and 10/13/18.
Please enter the Center from Nutwood St. and park in appropriate areas close to our meeting.

With 2 weeks to Orangecon, it’s the perfect time for a Build Night.
Come on down and put in a few good hours working on your latest model project.
We will also be hosting our annual 4 Hour Model Build Challenge contest.
Can you build a complete model (assemble, paint, mark and weather) in 4 hours?
Here’s your chance to prove it.
Choice and complexity of your kit choice is often the key to success in this challenge.
Last year we had an interesting array model entries ranging from armor in all scales to ToonTanks, aircraft, caricatures  and even a flying saucer.

Special Theme: Non-Armor Modeling Night
(1) Aircraft Modeling Demo: Rigging Biplanes (Joe Lomusio)
(2) Car Modeling Demo: Building Car Model and Painting Clear Coat Gloss Finishes (Derek Collins)
(3) Special Show and Tell: Non-Armor Modeling 
This is our annual Non-Armor Modeling Night.
We will have 2 special airplane and car modeling demonstrations.
We will also have a special Non-Armor Modeling Show and Tell session.
IN ADDITION TO YOUR REGULAR ARMOR SHOW AND TELL COMPLETED AND IN-PROCESS MODELS, we invite everyone to bring examples of their non-armor modeling activities : aircraft, cars, ships, sci-fi, trains, figures, dioramas, paper modeling , etc., to also share with everyone at the meeting.
Everyone Welcome:
As always, you don’t need to be a national AMPS or SoCal AMPS member to attend and there is no cost to buy, sell, trade or just attend the meeting.
Modelers of all ages and experience levels, wives, girlfriends and significant others are always welcome.
Just bring something armor modeling-related to share and participate in the meeting.
Standard Request: 
Since our meeting place, the Frye Sign Co., is an operating business with limited seating available, please bring any folding chairs that you may have so we can make sure that we have enough for a successful and comfortable meeting

Potluck and General Meeting at Brookhurst Hobbies
(1) Basic Armor Tactics presentation (Carlos C. & Luis C.)
(2) European Museums slideshow presentation (Pascal Z., Henry T. & Jim S.)
(3) Something of Interest Special Show and Tell (all)
(4) T-55 Group Build Display (all)
and if time permits:
(5) Jim Wechsler will demonstrate the techniques he used in replicating the 

US Department of Defense’s recently declassified special stealth camouflage scheme on his Stealth M117. If you went to the recent IPMS Nationals you know what we’re talking about. If you haven’t seen this model yet it really is something you have got to see to believe.
This is our second meeting of the year at Brookhurst Hobbies.
Usually we have a BBQ. Last year we went all out and served a complete steak dinner meal. That is hard to top, so this year we’re going in a different direction. We will be hosting a potluck and  Brookhurst Hobbies and SoCal AMPS will be providing the surprise Main Course, which we think you’ll enjoy, and the regular soft drinks and paper goods.
 
What we need for YOU to do is to bring, in addition to your regular in-process and completed models:
(1) Something for the potluck
(2) Something for the Something of Interest Special Show and Tell
(3) Your T55 models for a special T55 Group Build display at Brookhurst Hobbies
(4) Your winning models and trophies from the recent 2018 IPMS Nationals show
 
Also, please park behind the store so we don’t take up limited customer parking in the front of the store during our meeting.
